MSE Superintendent Radiographer - Breast Screening

Band 8a

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is now one of the largest trusts in the country, serving a population of 1.2 million people. Our newly formed Trust, comprising acute hospital sites at Broomfield in Chelmsford, Basildon and Southend,  is determined to provide the best health services for its local population. We are a well-led, high-performing and innovative organisation working in the best interests of the people we serve.

Job overview

This is a fabulous opportunity for a Senior Radiographer with Mammography experience to take the next step in your career as a Superintendent.

The service includes the Screening & Symptomatic Service based at Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, with three mobile vans covering the South Essex area. We screen around 25,000 women per year. Across MSE there is symptomatic imaging at Basildon and Screening and Symptomatic Radiographers at Broomfield provided from partners at ESNEFT.

We run eight recently refurbished Mammography rooms with tomosynthesis capacity at all sites and 7 Ultrasound rooms, with dedicated waiting areas for screening and symptomatic.

We have 3 mobile screening units operating across South Essex and recently installed remote digital transfer systems from our vans to the base site. North Essex screening is supported by ESNEFT.

This is an exciting time to join the team as we introduce Contrast Enhanced Spectral Mammography, alongside our current research audits and training programs.

We support ongoing leadership development and advanced practitioners, the services has supported the national breast fellowship program and have managed to recruit several graduates to support their ongoing career development.

Southend is also located close to two mainlines into London and an International airport, along with the longest pleasure pier in the UK.

If you are interested in the role and believe you hold the qualities we require, then apply today!

Main duties of the job

  • Develop demonstrably high level mammography skills, supported by highly developed specialist knowledge and clinical expertise.
  • To produce high quality mammographic images within the NHS breast screening programme and symptomatic mammography services at the breast unit and mobile sites.
  • Ensure that own workload, in daily mammography sessions, is run in an efficient and timely manner according to clinic appointment schedule.
