A fantastic opportunity have arisen in Southend Hospital to join an organisation with a reputation for excellence in the way it cares for the people it serves. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Senior Pharmacy Assistant to join the Pharmacy department!
The Pharmacy Technical Services Unit comprises the Aseptic Unit, Pre-pack unit, Radiopharmacy and Cytotoxic unit. Supervised by the senior technician in charge, the post holder will provide support services to the Pharmacy Technical Services department, including the ordering, receipt, storage and supply of Pharmaceuticals and other stocks, the manufacture of aseptic products in both the aseptic and cytotoxic unit and the pre-packing of medication in the pre-pack unit.
You will also assist senior staff with support duties essential to the smooth functioning on the unit.
32 hours per week - Monday- Thursday
There will be cross site working, early and late finishes, Saturday and bank holiday rota.

Main duties of the job
The role will involve cross site working, early and late finishes and weekend and Bank holiday Rota.
To support Pharmacists and Technicians in providing a high quality pharmaceutical services within the Aseptic production unit Radiopharmacy and Pre-pack unit to meet the needs of the Trust and external customer requirements whilst following set departmental standard operating procedures
You will be required to maintain operator validation.
You will be responsible for the compounding of all aseptic medicines to both the trust and external customers including Cytotoxics, clinical trials, PCA’s, OPAT, and other aseptically prepared products.
You will be required to perform dose calculations for chemotherapy drugs and radiopharmaceuticals
You will be responsible for packing, labelling and inspecting of over labelled / repacked items. The post holder will support senior staff with the prioritising and allocating of work for the Chemotherapy, general aseptic, radiopharmaceuticals and packing units.
You will communicate with service users to ensure timely supply of prepared products.

You will be required to carry out stock management duties including receiving, correct storage, daily stock count, expiry date checks, investigating stock discrepancies and the ordering of drugs and consumables.
You will provide administrative support carrying out clerical duties as required.
You will train junior members of staff and support the lead technician, in providing training.
You will support in providing training and re validation of staff.
Routine cleaning of specific aseptic rooms in the aseptic unit, Cytotoxic unit, Radiopharmacy Unit and prepacking areas not covered by the domestic.
To complete the NVQ Level 2, mandatory and relevant units in Pharmacy services and meet satisfactory levels of competence.
You will participate in the departmental evening, weekend and bank holiday rotas where necessary.
You will be expected to work at any Technical Services Unit across the 3 sites as requested.

Applicant requirements
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
