Job overview

This post at the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology based primarily in Southend Hospital, is a new position.  It is a  fixed term Consultant post with proposals in place to develop this into a permanent post. The candidate will become part of the Specialist Gynaecological Oncology team with Mr K Razvi and Miss F Toneva. The post holder is expected to help in the development of providing specialist Gynaecological oncology surgical service for Broomfield Hospital.

It is envisaged that the post-holder will contribute to and build on the current strength and range of surgical expertise in the Gynaecological Oncology Cancer Centre.

The service currently provides a full range of Gynae-oncology operating including Laparoscopic and Da Vinci Robotic surgery. There is a well-established Complex Pelvic MDT and the candidate has the opportunity to develop skills in pelvic exenterative surgery which is routinely offered if needed.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide clinical input and leadership to the Gynaecological Oncology specialist MDT at Southend Hospital / Basildon Hospital
  • To work as a key member of the Gynaecological Oncology Consultant team and the multi-disciplinary team at Basildon and Southend.
  • To build on the already established pathways between both sites to optimise patient pathways and support further development of the Network.
  • To support the established training programme in gynaecological oncology for ATSM trainees and other fellows in gynaecological oncology.
  • To provide support to the colposcopy service at Southend University Hospital.
  • To collaborate in clinical studies and publications.
  • To take a leadership role in ensuring that the local NSSG (between Southend and Basildon Hospitals) is compliant to Peer Review.
  • The appointee must have successfully completed sub-speciality training in Gynaecological Oncology. Any special interest in the field of gynaecological oncology would be welcomed.  The further establishment of audit would be useful.
  • The appointee will be responsible along with the current staff for providing a gynaecological oncology service the Mid & South Essex NHS Hospitals Group.  The post-holder will be able to perform complex gynaecological oncology surgery at Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and will be supported by the gynaecological oncology team and 1 gynaecologist with special interest in the sub-specialty.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Full GMC Registration
  • Completed MRCOG or equivalent
  • CCT in Obstetrics & Gynaecology
  • Entry onto the GMC specialist register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of application
  • Sub-speciality training and RCOG accreditation or equivalent in Gynaecological Oncology.
Desirable criteria
  • MD or PhD
  • ATSM in Colposcopy/BSCCP accreditation and ATSM in hysteroscopy

Experience & Ability

Essential criteria
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK subspecialist CCT in Gynaecological Oncology with wide experience in gynaecological oncology including non surgical aspects.
  • Fully trained gynaecological oncologist able to manage surgical and non surgical (including palliative care problems)
  • Excellent communication and counselling skills with patients, medical and nursing staff
  • Excellent IT Skills.
  • Commitment to effective departmental management and management of a multi-disciplinary group. Evidence of Management training.

  • Experience of MDT and Network function and development
