Band 5 Dietitian for Adult Services

Are you looking for a part time dietetic position that will enable you to start or progress your career journey?

An opportunity has arisen at Southend University Hospital, whereby you would work alongside two full time Band 5 dietitians to support delivery of dietetic services to the inpatient wards, outpatient general clinics and delivery of staff training. There is also the opportunity to help support the outpatient oncology service, which will help develop both clinical and counselling skills. You will also be supported from the Band 6 and Band 7 dietitians from the adult team. 

We are a proactive dietetic team that strive for continual improvement. There will be the opportunity for you be involved with projects, audits and service developments. You will also be involved in the delivery of student training.

Main duties of the job

Our band 5 roles at Southend Hospital offer an excellent range of clinical experience working alongside specialist dietitians who are available to provide support and training to support your development. 

Your role will include:

  • Managing a specific caseload of outpatients and inpatients.
  • Providing nutrition training to ward staff and patients.
  • Managing your workload and own time effectively with regards to clinical priority.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

For full details about this varied and rewarding role, please see attached job description, however some of the additional responsibilities of the role include:

  • Promoting dietetics and the role of the dietitian on the adult wards.
  • Promoting paediatric dietetics in the wider MDT; including during national nutrition awareness weeks.
  • Supervision and management of student dietitians in order to be a part of developing the future of dietetics.

  • Qualified dietitian - degree level
  • HCPC registration
Desirable criteria
  • British Dietetic Association membership

Knowledge and experience

  • Interest in a range of conditions
  • MDT working
  • Ability to promote the role of nutrition in clinical & health promotion settings
  • Good written communication skills
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in an NHS setting
