A fantastic opportunity have arisen in Southend Hospital to join an organisation with a reputation for excellence in the way it cares for the people it serves. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Pharmacy Assistant to join the Pharmacy Technical Services Unit!

The Pharmacy Technical Services Unit comprises the Aseptic unit, Pre-pack unit and Cytotoxic unit. Supervised by the senior technician in charge, the post holder will provide support services to the Pharmacy Technical Services department, including the ordering, receipt, storage and supply of Pharmaceuticals and other stocks, the manufacture of aseptic products in both the aseptic and cytotoxic unit and the pre-packing of medication in the pre-pack unit.

This person will also assist senior staff with support duties (such as cleaning aseptic rooms) essential to the smooth functioning on the unit.

37.5  hours per week  permanent full time
Early and late finishes, cross site working and take part in weekend and bank holiday working.

Main duties of the job

You  will be responsible for assisting under supervision by the Specialist technician and Team Leaders with the compounding of Cytotoxic drugs, PCA solutions, Intravenous additives  and other aseptically prepared products  within the Pharmacy Technical Services Unit.   
You  will also assist senior staff with support duties (such as cleaning) essential to the smooth functioning on the unit.

Assisting under supervision by the Specialist technician and Team Leaders with the compounding of Cytotoxic drugs, PCA solutions, Intravenous additives  and other aseptically prepared products within the Pharmacy Technical Services Unit.   

Cleaning equipment and unit, unpacking stores and assembling items.

Please note that this role will close early should sufficient applications be received.

 

 

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ level 2 for Pharmacy Assistants, or ability to attain competence in NVQ level 2, modules over a period of training.
  • Good understanding of basic Maths and English
  • Basic computer skills such as Microsoft office, Microsoft Word and Excel.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • At least 6 months work experience that required understanding and adherence to set standard operating work policies and procedures.
Desirable criteria
  • Aseptic Compounding experience or background knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice
  • worked within a team
