An exciting opportunity has arisen for a successful candidate who will provide a proactive procurement service to the Care Group or Corporate Division(s) that you work with, covering both strategic advice and operational support. 

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust provides services to the residents of Southend, Basildon and Chelmsford. It was formed in April 2020 by the merger of Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust, and Basildon & Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The procurement function acts as a centre of excellence for all Procurement & Supply Chain activities across the new group. It manages the provision of goods and services to all departments (clinical and non-clinical) on a daily basis, contracting for the provision with several thousand suppliers. The service performs a strategic business management role,  managing £370m of non-pay expenditure in support of its stakeholders across the group.

Main duties of the job

You will be recognised as a professional procurement lead for the Trust on high profile, high risk procurements. To lead on negotiations of complex, high value contracts for the procurement of capital and consumable items.

To manage the implementation and development of procurement services for MSE to support the strategic approach to Category and Contract Management.

The ideal candidate will be a corporate member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply, have experience of business development and tender processes as well as experience of managing contracts or budgets above £10m

  • Doctorate degree or equivalent level of knowledge gained through work experience
  • MCIPS – Corporate member of Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply ( By examination )
Desirable criteria
  • Current driving licence

  • Experience of 1st line reporting to executive level
