Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon

Consultant

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is now one of the largest trusts in the country, serving a population of 1.2 million people. Our newly formed Trust, comprising acute hospital sites at Broomfield in Chelmsford, Basildon and Southend,  is determined to provide the best health services for its local population. We are a well-led, high-performing and innovative organisation working in the best interests of the people we serve.

Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon to join our team at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust.

You will be expected to deliver an efficient Consultant level oncoplastic breast service of the highest possible quality and promote clinical research, trials, and innovation within MSEFT.

You will be supported by a strong multidisciplinary team including breast radiologists, oncologists, plastic surgeons, histopathologists, radiographers, clinical nurse specialists and breast-specific health care assistants. The team is supported by an MDT co-ordinator.

Patient initiated follow-up (PIFU) is arranged through our established nurse-led open-access follow-up system, supported by an administrator.

The unit is supported by a unit counsellor and lymphoedema therapists.   Genetic services are provided through Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Weekly breast MDT are convened in Southend Monday 13:30-14:30 (screening) and Friday 08:00-10:30. Regional risk-reducing MDT alternate months.

AAC date will be 26th September 2024.

Main duties of the job

To provide clinical services in line with the Trust’s clinical governance arrangements which is designed to ensure that agreed quality standards are achieved. These requirements include:

To undertake audit of clinical practice within the department to ensure that current standards and evidence-based practice are applied.

All Consultants are required to maintain and develop their clinical skills.  Individual training and development needs will be identified through an appraisal process. The Trust supports the requirements for continuing professional development (CPD) and is committed to providing time (1.5PA’s) and financial support for these activities.
