Job overview

ESNEFT has identified Epic as their preferred supplier in delivering a new Electronic Patient Record system. The opportunity to develop our processes and clinical pathways using the best-in-class EPR offers ESNEFT the platform to strive for excellence in all areas of healthcare across all roles. The EPR will benefit all clinical and operational areas, aligning to our Trust strategy to support harmonisation of services and patient pathways across the Trust.

 

 As part of the implementation we are looking for we are looking for exceptional people to join our expanding ESNEFT Laboratory IT Team.

 

As a Lab IT System Specialist you will use your knowledge and skills in biomedical science to develop the Pathology IT systems within ESNEFT.  You will be part of the Laboratory IT team to providing day to day support of Pathology IT systems and supporting key Pathology IT projects including the LIMS implementation and EPR projects.

 

Experience in Histology would be beneficial to complement the existing knowledge and skills of the Lab IT team.

Main duties of the job

  • You will provide day to day support of Pathology IT systems and support key Pathology IT projects.
  • Be responsible for managing system development for the end-user environment and also undertaking technical duties such as security administration and system testing from an end-user perspective.
  • Play a key role in communicating between end-users and technical support, and acts as a representative at national user group.
  • You will provide specialist advice and guidance on specific issues including: system usage, proposed improvements, training, & interfaces to other Trust systems.
  • Be responsible for maintaining complex system reference files and data tables to ensure data integrity and correct reporting of activity data to the data warehouse.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate policies and strategies to ensure the effective use of the designated system(s) for which you are responsible.

You will be based at an ESNEFT site in either Ipswich or Colchester and will be expected to travel to all Trust sites as and when required. Depending on the project you may be required to attend designated locations on regular days to work alongside the supplier and other team’s members. You will be required to participate in relevant training and achieve certification/competence.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to Degree level in Biomedical Science or equivalent, professional experience, skills and training
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • HCPC Registration

Experience

Essential criteria
  • A thorough knowledge and experience of working in Pathology or administration of Pathology IT systems.
  • An exposure to the operation of major hospital departments e.g. Outpatients, Medical Records
  • Substantial experience of working in a Healthcare environment with multiple IT systems
Desirable criteria
  • Specialist knowledge of LIMS and associated underlying architecture of laboratory and wider trust IT systems

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of Laboratory Information Management systems used in Pathology
  • Knowledge of MS Office applications.
  • Knowledge of clinical practice within a hospital environment
  • Able to work on own initiative and manage a challenging workload
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and manage programmes and tasks effectively
  • Outstanding communication skills both written and verbal
