Senior Healthcare Support Worker - Day Surgery Unit

We are looking for an enthusiastic, caring and motivated Senior Healthcare Support Worker to come and work on our new six bedded Day Surgery Unit.
If you are interested in a new challenge and embrace innovation then this could be the role for you
The unit will be open Monday to Friday 0700-2100.
You would be expected to work four shifts a week with varying shift times, within these hours, with the potential in the future to work Saturday.
South Theatres & the new surgical hub delivers both Elective &Emergency surgery. The department provides a 24 hour service for Emergency surgery and comprises of 8 operating theatres.
These consist of one dedicated Emergency theatre, an urgent surgical Theatre and 6 Elective Theatres. The specialities include General surgery, Plastics, Breast, Laparoscopic, Urology, Colorectal, ENT and the newest innovation introduced at Ipswich Hospital, Robotic surgery using the Da Vinci Robot.
There is potential for internal rotation to come and work in theatres and recovery learning new skills and gaining self-development

You will:
- Provide support to patients, their families and carers.
- Work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure we maintain the highest standards of patient care.
- Be pro-active in their own learning and development.
- To support the nurse on the ward with patient centred care, taking observations, supporting admissions and dischargers.

- Evidence of completed competencies as part of a professional portfolio.

- Willingness to undertake further study
Knowledge

- Awareness of physical, psychological and spiritual needs of patient’s relatives and carers.
- Awareness of the nature of the carers role in assisting patients to fulfil basic human needs.
- Knowledge of clinical procedures and observations
- Knowledge of relevant legislation

- Understanding of risk management, health and safety issues, including safe manual handling.
