Job overview

Due to the retirement of the current post-holder, we have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician passionate about medicines governance to join us as a key member of the Pharmacy Team. This post is up to full time 37.5 hours per week, we would accept part time with a minimum 30 hours per week, and based at Ipswich Hospital however you will be required to travel to Colchester Hospital.

You will support pharmacy and medicines governance across the organisation working closely with the Chief Pharmacist (Controlled Drugs Accountable Officer) to ensure the safe management of controlled drugs. Being able to develop strong working relationships with key individuals across the organisation as a “critical friend” is essential for this role. You will also need good time management skills along with being able to prioritise your workload.

In addition you will also play an important role supporting robust oversight of pharmacy governance including regulatory compliance. This will involve working with all areas of the Pharmacy Team. You will also be expected to undertake a clinical pharmacy role.

Main duties of the job

You will be a key member of the pharmacy department and will support pharmacy and medicines governance. 

You will assist the Trust Controlled Drugs Accountable Officer (CDAO) in the safe management of controlled drugs ensuring compliance with licences and legislation trust-wide.

You will also assist the department management by supporting the pharmacy governance systems.

You will also have a role as a clinical pharmacy technician delivering medicines optimisation pharmacy service to hospital ward(s).

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Science or equivalent
  • GPhC registered pharmacy technician
  • Medicines Management Qualification
  • Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician
Desirable criteria
  • Formal management/leadership training
  • Investigation training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Adequate Experience working as a pharmacy technician within the hospital setting
  • Experience in audit
  • Experience of writing Standard Operating Procedures
Desirable criteria
  • Wide experience of being involved in multidisciplinary activity
  • Clinical pharmacy working in a hospital setting
  • Experience of using quality improvement methodology
