Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced paediatric Dietitian to join our team in Ipswich Hospital.

 We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated Dietitian to provide a paediatric dietetic service to children with complex feeding difficulties, many who require home enteral tube feeding.

 You will be providing a dietetic service to children aged between 4-16 years who have a wide range of communication, physical, profound and multiple learning difficulties.  

 This job provides the opportunity to apply a variety of clinical skills including enteral feeds, nutrition support, healthy eating and allergies. The job involves a mixture of outpatient clinics and home visits. In addition you will have your own caseload of home enteral tube feeds.

 You will be expected to work closely with the multidisciplinary teams based in the schools and wider community.  Within the dietetic department you will join a supportive team of paediatric dietitians. There will also be the opportunity to practice some general paediatrics.

 You will require a range of skills including the ability to manage a busy workload and should be someone who enjoys working within a team and is eager to provide support to others.

Main duties of the job

·     Be responsible for caseload of children with complex feeding difficulties who attend specialist schools across East Suffolk

·       To manage a caseload of paediatric Home Enteral Tube Fed patients.

·    To provide a dietetic service to children and their parents/ carers attending clinics in a variety of settings; including specialist schools, community clinics and hospital outpatients. 

·    Provide supervision and support to the band 4 paediatric dietetic assistant practitioners.

·       To contribute to the dietetic service providing a source of expertise to patients, carers, medical practitioners and allied health professionals and social care professionals as part of the multidisciplinary team.

·    To provide specialist input into the planning, development and evaluation of dietetic services within your team and for defined projects.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will benefit from being part of a large department consisting of 23 Dietitians and 8 Dietetic technicians/ Dietetic Assistant Practitioner,  as well as administrative and secretarial support staff, working across both acute and community settings, covering a number of specialities including renal, paediatrics and oncology. The department gives a high priority to continuing professional development and is well recognised as a provider of student training.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Degree / Postgraduate Diploma in Dietetics
  • • Registration with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • • Current full UK driving license
Desirable criteria
  • • Member of British Dietetic Association
  • • Member of the BDA Paediatric specialist group
  • • Leadership qualifications e.g. LEO and Supervisory Skills
  • • Evidence of other post registration education and training e.g. BDA paediatric MSc Modules 1-5
  • • Training in Safeguarding Children

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Significant post-registration experience in a range of clinical areas.
  • • Portfolio of evidence of CPD
  • • Experience of working within Paediatric Dietetics.
  • • Experience of delivering nutrition education and training to public and health care professionals

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • Broad up to date knowledge and practical application of paediatric dietetics.
  • • Knowledge and understanding of BDA professional standards
  • • Awareness of current issues in: Nutrition and Dietetics, The NHS and Department of Health, The Health and social care agenda
  • • Ability to analyse complex professional, clinical and ethical issues and apply in practice
  • • Ability to lead student training within speciality
  • • Intermediate IT skills e.g. keyboard skills, PowerPoint

  • • Completed audit and research projects and have applied in practice
