Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Ophthalmology Assistant. 

You will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide high quality diagnostic testing within the Ophthalmology Department. This will include liaising with Eye clinic staff including Ophthalmologists, Optometrists, Orthoptists, Nurses and administrative staff to deliver a high quality ophthalmology service.

The post will involve under taking a range of ophthalmic investigations including Humphrey Visual Fields (HVF) tests, retinal imaging using OCT and measuring visual acuity using Snellen and Log Mar charts. Good organisational skills are also required to monitor stock and equipment levels within the department.

Experience within a healthcare setting or optics is essential, as well as good numeracy, literacy and IT skills. Training specific to the role will be provided.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a highly motivated, resourceful individual with good communication skills: A team player with the skills to work with all levels of hospital personnel and patients.

This is a full time role which will routinely involve shift patterns between 08:00-20:00 Monday - Friday and 09:00-17:00 Saturday and Sunday.

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous healthcare experience in a patient facing role
Desirable criteria
  • previously worked in an eye clinic
  • previously worked in an opticians or similar setting
  • experience performing OCT or HFA
  • previous NHS experience

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • expereince or qualifications equlivalent to NVQ 3
  • English and Mathematics GCSE or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • ABDO optical assistant qualification or simillar

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • experience of computerised appointment systems
  • Awareness of key factors in a patient facing role
Desirable criteria
  • previous use of lorenzo clarity or evolve
