We have an exciting opportunity for join our Estates Department at  East Suffolk and North Essex Foundation Trust (ESNEFT) .

We have an excellent opportunity for a  suitably qualified and experienced Mechanical  craftsperson to undertake a wide range of duties within a busy and dedicated in-house workforce serving a general acute hospital.

You will be based at Colchester Hospital (travel to other ESNEFT sites will be required as and when required) and requires a highly motivated, dependable and flexible person with good communication and interpersonal skills, who is capable of working to a high standard with minimum supervision.

Main duties of the job

  • To principally provide a comprehensive Mechanical maintenance service for the repair, maintenance and New works installation of mechanical systems.
  • Maintenance requirements will be located at East Suffolk and North Essex Foundation Trust (ESNEFT) owned, leased properties, and properties where ESNEFT provide an estates maintenance service, via a service level agreement or management agreement.
  • This includes the maintenance and repair of existing assets as well as the inspection and verification testing of new equipment and systems, delivered by outside contractors, and to ensure at all times, a safe environment for patients, public and staff.
  • Whilst the primary task will be Mechanical work, the post holder must have a flexible approach to a range of building maintenance operations.
  • A team view is vital to delivering effective and efficient services to the patients; you will be required to liaise directly with clinicians at a Ward level as well as other members of the Estates and Facilities department.
  • When necessary you maybe required to analyse situations and clearly identify and communicate to supervisors, estates officers, mangers and if requested to do so patients, public and staff.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Relevant NVQ level 2 or experience
  • Good Standard level of Education
  • Previous “in-house” training associated with Building services, engineering or maintenance
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in a healthcare environment

Experience

Essential criteria
  • A good general knowledge of maintenance and recording requirements including the use of relevant tools and equipment.
  • IT Literate
  • A Basic Knowledge of workshop safety practices
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrable previous experience of Building Services maintenance.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • To be able to practically demonstrate a good understanding of Building Services maintenance, repair and operation.
  • Demonstrate the ability to undertake unsupervised routine maintenance and repair work.
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to prioritise and identify urgent actions
Desirable criteria
  • Good fault finding and repair skills.
  • Commitment to personal Development.
