In autumn 2024 the Emergency Department at Ipswich Hospital are moving to a brand new, state of the art building! We have an exciting opportunity for committed, enthusiastic and highly motivated HCSWs to join our team.
Senior Healthcare Support Workers are a key part of our team and support the Registered Nurses in providing high quality care to our patients.

Experience in the health care setting is essential. You should have achieved your Care certificate or have demonstrable relevant skills.
The ED is a specialist area in its own right, and there is a wealth of opportunities to further your learning and skills. Including
- Wound care including gluing, steri-strips, staples
- Completing your venepuncture and cannulation training
- Learning how to complete 12-lead ECGs
- Being given the knowledge to complete limb plaster training
Our Senior Healthcare Support Workers work a rota pattern, so you MUST be able to work a variety of shifts, including days, nights and weekends including Bank Holidays such as Christmas Day.
Please be advised that we are unable to offer set shifts patterns.
Main duties of the job
To meet the direct and indirect care needs of patients under the delegation and supervision of a Registered Nurse.
To meet the needs of the Trust with regards to Induction, mandatory and statutory training.
To ensure high standards of patient care at all times, in line with Trust policies and guidelines.
To work as an effective member of the nursing and wider multi-professional healthcare team.

- Awareness of the nature of the carers role in assisting patients to fulfil basic human needs
- Knowledge of clinical procedures and observations

- Evidence of functional skills or willingness to undertake
