Hunnitots Day Nursery at Ipswich Hospital are looking for an Early Years Practitioner to join the nursery team to provide care for children aged 4 months to 5 yrs.

Hunnitots Day Nursery, based at Ipswich Hospital has approximately 70 and 80 children booked in each day. Parents have a choice of in excess of 10 different sessions within the hours of 7 am to 6 pm. The choice provided aims to accommodate the variety of staff working patterns at Ipswich Hospital (part of East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust).

We have a combination of 20 full and part time staff work at Hunnitots; staff work flexible shifts between the hours of 7am -6pm Monday - Friday. 

We are looking for someone with excellent communication and listening skills to plan the day and respond to the different needs of the children we teach. 

You will be enthusiastic and well organised, and have a Childcare qualification at level 2 or level 3.

  • To care for the physical and emotional needs of each child, showing an understanding of children’s needs in the early years.
  • To help create a happy and loving atmosphere in which each child can develop as an individual, through play and learning life skills.
  • To create and develop a stimulating environment to meet the needs of individual children, being aware of the needs of different age groups in line with The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (EYFS).
  • To prepare snacks and be aware of allergies and special diets etc.
  • Supervise children at meal times and promote healthy eating while developing good eating and table habits.
  • Encourage children to develop ‘self-help’ skills and an awareness of personal hygiene e.g. washing and toileting in line with The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (EYFS).
  • Organise and supervise creative and practical activities and display children’s work.
  • Use initiative when planning and supervising children in indoor and outdoor activities being aware of their safety and welfare.
  • Be responsible for Key Children’s transfer visits within the room, liaising with the Nursery Office.
  • Responsible for supporting students and encouraging them to meet their objectives, liaising with Deputy Room Leader.
  • Be responsible for communication within the room and newsletters to parents.
  • Maintaining Key Children’s Learning Journeys and liaise with Senior Nursery Nurse and SENCO of any concerns raised.
  • To establish positive relationships with all members of the Nursery team, children and parents.
  • To be aware of and comply with all Nursery policies and procedures.
  • To attend staff meetings
  • Take an active part in Nursery projects and special events.
  • Any other duties of a similar nature which may be required from time to time, subject to the needs of the nursery.
  • To liaise with new key children’s parents/ carers during the initial visit and to complete relevant children/ parent detail forms.
  • To be the second signature for all medication given to children, being aware of the dosage and time as directed by Doctor
  • To be responsible for carrying out Daily Risk assessments and to liaise with Senior Nursery Nurse/ Room Leader to ensure all risk assessments are regularly updated.
  • To be responsible for complying with Trust Infection Control policies and clinical guidelines
  • To prepare for and actively participate in annual Performance Development Reviews and any progress reviews.
  • Ensure training and development needs detailed in your personal development plan are followed up and the effectiveness of the acquired training and development evaluated in term of self, patient and service.
