We are looking for an enthusiastic Dietitian to join our friendly and supportive Dietetic service at ESNEFT. The role is hosted by ESNEFT but split role with the ICB providing support the ICB Medicines Optimisation team who will provide clinical and professional dietetic advice on nutrition and the use of dietetic products. Within the Dietetic team you will be a key member of the community team, delivering Dietetic assessment and interventions to a complex caseload of patients in their own home and in a clinic setting working closely with a band 4 practitioner

 You will benefit from being part of an integrated inpatient (Ipswich Hospital), outpatient and community service that incorporates a range of clinical specialisms including renal, paediatrics and oncology. This affords lots of opportunities to develop and learn new skills, with a commitment from the service to support your continuing professional development.  As well as being an integral part of our friendly SNEE ICB medicines optimisation team. While you will be working with dietitians across the ICS, this role will have a particular focus on Ipswich & East Suffolk and North East Essex provision.

Main duties of the job

The Medicines Optimisation team within the ICB are responsible for pathway, formulary, and guideline development, which includes nutritional supplementation. The team carry out ICB wide programmes of education/training for primary care to improve practice and prescribing. The team also use their expertise for clinical queries from clinicians and practices. They support nutrition related ICB cost improvement plans (CIP) for each financial year. They also carry out product evaluations, which will inform the adoption of cost-effective and safe nutritional support in primary care.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about delivering a quality, evidence-based service, who relishes working in a busy setting and are a strong team player. We are seeking someone with excellent team working skills with both Dietetics colleagues and the wider MDT, as well as an ability to work independently and flexibly.

The Dietetic service operates from within the Integrated Pathways Division, alongside our therapy colleagues in speech and language therapy, occupational therapy and physiotherapy. We therefore have excellent multi-disciplinary links. We also work closely with the Integrated neighbourhood community teams, and have close relationships with our AHP colleagues, under the leadership of our Director of AHPs.

Essential criteria
  • Proven experience post qualification with additional proven experience at a senior level
  • Experience of service development/innovation
  • Proven line management/recruitment responsibility for junior staff

  • Experience of providing services to:- older people; those with complex needs – dementia, learning disabilities and neurological conditions; enteral tube feeding
  • Completed audit or research projects and evidence of application to practice
  • Portfolio of evidence of CPD

  • Experience of delivery of structured education
  • Experience of leading service development/change
  • Multi agency and collaborative working
  • Membership of relevant specialist interest groups
  • Experience of working in or with GP practices/ primary care

  • Specialist knowledge acquired through non-medical independent prescribing qualification (nb. no prescribing will be undertaken as part of this role)

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • BSc Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent
  • • Current HPC registration in Dietetics
  • • Member of British Dietetic Association
  • • Clinical Supervisory Skills Course/ Student training courses
  • • Able to travel routinely and independently across Ipswich & East Suffolk and North East Essex (and occasionally further afield) as required.
  • • Ability to travel between locations
Desirable criteria
  • • Leadership qualifications, management training
  • • Post registration training/ highly specialised courses, working towards masters level in area of interest

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • Broad knowledge and practical application of clinical dietetics
  • • Good working knowledge of relevant speciality
  • • Good knowledge of the MUST tool and food first principles/appropriate nutritional supplement prescribing initiatives
  • • Awareness of current issues in: Nutrition and Dietetics The NHS and Department of Health The Health and Social care agenda
  • • Knowledge of BDA professional standards
  • • Detailed understanding of and contribution to clinical governance issues e.g. health and safety, risk
  • • Knowledge of setting professional standards
  • • Knowledge of recruitment and selection procedures
  • • Knowledge and application of leadership and management theories, practice and skills
  • • Knowledge and practical implications of general legislation to the department
  • • Health and Safety risk awareness
  • • Intermediate IT skills e.g. keyboard Skills, Powerpoint, Patient Activity Systems
