Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for two full time band 7 chief cardiac physiologists specialising in echocardiography to join our dynamic and hardworking team of cardiac physiologists and clinical scientists here at the Ipswich Hospital.

Our echocardiography team are based at the Ipswich Hospital and cover a range of diagnostic tests for both outpatients and inpatients. We provide a comprehensive range of tests including adult transthoracic echocardiography, physiologist-led valve clinics and exercise echocardiography lists, and consultant-led dobutamine stress echocardiography and transoesophogeal echocardiography lists. The department operates Monday to Friday with the potential to undertake weekend overtime work where available. The majority of our full-time staff complete their hours over 4 days during the week working between the hours of 8am and 6pm. We can discuss the working pattern of the successful candidate prior to starting with us.

This is an exciting time to join the department as we are currently having our cardiac catheter labs refurbished in order to improve the care we provide for our patients. As part of this, we are expanding the PCI and pacing therapies that we are able to offer our patients including more complex PCI procedures and CRT-P/conduction system device implants which will allow patients to be treated locally.

Main duties of the job

The key duties of the role are outlined below.

To independently and competently perform a range of clinical procedures safely and appropriately in accordance with local and national policy, procedure and guidance.

To interpret clinical data, produce factual reports and deliver results to other medical professionals.

To contribute to the department training and education programmed and implement changes to practice/service provision in liaison with the principal/deputy principal cardiac physiologists.

To work within trust and external professional standards of proficiency and be able to practice safely and effectively whilst maintaining legal and ethical boundaries.

Working for our organisation

We are ESNEFT and we provide hospital and community health services to almost one million people across east Suffolk and north Essex. Our dedicated staff deliver care from acute hospitals in Colchester and Ipswich, community hospitals, surgeries, community clinics and in patients’ own homes.

We are the largest NHS organisation in East Anglia, employing more than 12,000 staff.

We pride ourselves on supporting our staff. We offer a wide range of training and development opportunities, as well as flexible working options.

Along with supporting you to achieve your career goals we offer a generous pension scheme, unsocial hours payments (where applicable), 27 days annual leave on commencement (pro rata) and access to a range of NHS discounts. Our Staff Health and Wellbeing programme offer a variety of services.

Our philosophy is that Time Matters to everyone. Across the Trust, we concentrate on improving the things we do and removing those which cause time delays for our staff and patients.

We are investing in our commitment to Time Matters with a partnership with leading electronic patient record (EPR) supplier Epic. This digital transformation will bring what’s widely regarded as the world’s best EPR system to ESNEFT, transforming life in hospital for staff and patients.

If you are passionate about patient care and want to develop your skills and knowledge, then we want to hear from you.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We are also looking to start the process of obtaining BSE departmental accreditation which successful candidates would be expected to support. We work alongside a great team of consultant cardiologists and cardiac nurse specialists who are approachable and supportive.

Ideally we would look to recruit individuals who hold BSE level 2 accreditation in adult transthoracic echocardiography. However, for the right candidate who does not currently hold BSE accreditation, we would be willing to consider a band 6 progression post where we would support you through your BSE accreditation process. Although full-time work would be preferable, we can also consider part-time hours for the right candidate.
