Job overview

We are looking for a motivated and experienced manager who can bring enthusiasm and energy to the assistant service manager role.

We're recruiting for the following:

  • Family and women’s services (FAWS) 

Assistance Service Manager will work closely with the Service Manager and General Manager to  provide a highly effective and efficient service delivery for the Division. The post holder will have an operational lead role for all administrative functions with additional responsibilities, working under the direction of the Service Manager.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have a key role in delivering the operational plan and supporting the Divisional Strategy. The post holder will work closely with other Divisions and corporate departments, e.g. Procurement, Finance, Workforce & OD to continuously improve the quality and effectiveness of all services provided. The post holder will provide effective service management in respect of business planning, finance, human resources, health & safety and general operational issues.

We employ 3,500 staff and serve a local population of around 350,000 people living in west Essex and east Hertfordshire, centred on the M11 corridor and the towns of Harlow, Bishop’s Stortford and Epping. Our extended catchment area incorporates a population of up to 500,000 and includes the areas of Hoddesdon, Cheshunt and Broxbourne in Hertfordshire.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • NHS or equivalent management experience
  • Evidence of involvement in strategic management planning and achievements in management situations
  • Previous financial management experience (including budget management, delivery of Cost Improvements Plans etc).
  • Evidence of involvement in project work involvements in the development of policies and procedures.

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Competent in the use of I.M & T tools and techniques
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Experience

Essential criteria
  • NHS management experience
  • Evidence of involvement in strategic management planning and achievements in management situations
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of managing a department/group of staff
