The Cancer Team at The Princess Alexandra Hospital are looking to appoint a Band 7 Lung Cancer Nurse Specialist to help support and further develop our lung cancer service.
This is a unique opportunity for any nurse who has extensive experience as a senior band 6 within respiratory medicine or cancer care who wishes to expand their clinical skills and knowledge to help develop an expanding service which is fully patient centred.
The nurse will be a highly visible presence across the speciality and wards, working to ensure the highest standards of care, setting and maintaining standards of clinical excellence and continuously improving experiences for patients, families and carers.
The patient experience will be a priority for you with a strong emphasis on compassion and dignity. You will be supported by an experienced and committed management team.
For this role you will need to have current NMC Nursing registration with post qualification experience.
Possession of excellent communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills coupled with evidence of continuing professional development is essential.
In addition you will be required to demonstrate a flexible approach to work.

Princess Alexandra Hospital diagnoses over 200 new Lung Cancers a year. The role of the Macmillan Lung Cancer Nursing team is to provide a specialist service to support patients through this journey.
The post holder will work under the direction of the Macmillan Head of Nursing for Cancer to deliver a supporting nursing service for patients and their families undergoing treatment and investigation for Lung Cancer within the Princess Alexandra Trust.
The Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist Team provides advice and effective nursing care to all patients within the Lung Cancer Service whilst working as part of the Multi-Disciplinary Lung Cancer Care Team.
- To assess the information needs of patients, service users, family and friends, and provide relevant support, information, education, advice and counselling when necessary.
- To support patients with lung cancer throughout the duration of their cancer journey from the period of investigation, diagnosis and treatment and beyond
- To ensure continuity for patients referred for specialist care by liaison with referring centre
- Facilitates all staff in the development of practice with a view to promoting person centred care when caring for the individual with lung cancer
