Job overview

Head of Service to, and line manager for, all EBME staff and act as a ‘local expert’ for the Trust on all medical device related issues both locally and nationally

To lead all processes involved with the acquisition of Medical Devices including the management of the Trust wide capital medical equipment budget.

Ensuring Trust policies for the safe and correct management and use of medical devices are in place, current and adhered to.

Supervise the Bed Management contract for the Trust.

The post holder will design, implement and monitor a quality management system for the procurement, supply, use, servicing and repair of Medical Devices across the Trust and all service level agreements with external parties. Monitor the implementation of the Trust bed management contract and ensure KPI’s are met and action plans are implemented

Main duties of the job

  • Develop a Quality Management System, with a key focus on managing risk, continuous improvement and customer satisfaction.
  • To evaluate service contracts and the level of service carried out by external service providers.
  • Flexibility to respond in a crisis
  • Able to remain calm in difficult situation
  • Ability to analyse and interpret complex facts or situations and compare a range of options in order to facilitate sound decision making.
  • To be responsible for the Trust capital medical equipment budget.
  • To be responsible for the purchase of capital and revenue medical equipment in order to ensure cost-effective use of the available resources, and to ensure that quality and safety standards are met.
  • Working with the Healthcare Group Leads and Ward Departmental Leads to ensure that essential equipment and staffing levels are in place to enable quality and quantity service delivery, within the agreed budgets, as delegated by Healthcare Group Lead 
  • Promoting and developing the culture of responsiveness, ownership and customer care amongst EBME staff.
  • Working with other Estates managers to ensure that Estates delegated budgets are not exceeded and opportunities are fully explored to reduce Estates costs.
  • To clearly communicate with the EBME team, whilst able to persuade and negotiate with suppliers on technical matters.
