Job overview

We are looking for kitchen/retail assistants to support our busy catering team at the Princess Alexandra Hospital. You will be part of a dedicated team and work alongside our main kitchen  team to support them in the preparing of meals for our patients and people, also ensuring our work areas and equipment are clean to highest standard.

We actively support the development of our team to ensure they learn and grow with us. We are able to offer support with your professional development, including funding of qualifications in food hygiene and we also offer a number of apprenticeships.

Main duties of the job

Your day-to-day duties will include:

  • Supporting our chefs with kitchen operations
  • Providing a support service to the kitchen [cold food prep and cleaning]
  • Working as part of a team in the Central Dish wash and Pot Wash area
  • Receiving and storing of food items
  • Operation of tills and money handling ,
  • Keeping the department stocked of all produce.
  • Full cleaning 
  • Documentation completing  

We can offer flexible shifts to ensure we cover our service from 6am to 7pm, 7 days a week.

When you start with us you will have a comprehensive 6-month probationary period to ensure you are properly supported as you learn your new job and what is expected; ensuring we identify any training and development needs and put objectives in place to support you in your role and career with us.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • General cleaning of all areas associated with the catering department [e.g. working surfaces, equipment, floors, walls, stores area etc.] whilst using the appropriate cleaning materials/chemicals/equipment for the job, wearing the specified personal protective clothing and completing cleaning schedule documentation
  • Support chefs with kitchen operations providing patients & public meal preparation via the mobile bulk trolley service or from time to time by any other means deemed necessary in line with business/patient needs
