Job overview

Felixstowe Community Therapy has an opening for a permanent B6 Integrated Therapist suitable for either a registered Occupational Therapist or Registered Physiotherapist to  work alongside a team consisting of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Generic Workers and Therapy Assistant Practitioner.

The Felixstowe Community Therapy service is part of a wider Integrated Neighbourhood Team (INT) consisting of district & community nurses, generic workers, community matron, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and Social Care Workers. There  is a B7 Registered Clinical Lead Therapist who works collaboratively with the Lead Nurse and Lead Social Worker. An INT Manager is overall responsible for Health and Social care services in Felixstowe.

The team is busy, dynamic and proud of their holistic care approach. The team continues to change to support developments in NHS which includes close working relationships with the local statutory, non-statutory and voluntary services including GP, acute hospital colleagues, GP Federation, Local Authorities, Social Prescribers, Mental Health, Community Council partners, commissioners and many other local community groups.

You will be actively supported by regular supervision and individual annual appraisal. You will be expected to work autonomously and on behalf of the patients served by the local area. You will have access to skills development training relevant to this post.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide clinical and supervisory leadership to junior staff & students within the multi-disciplinary team.
  • To be jointly responsible with other senior colleagues for the day-to-day planning and delivery of the multi-disciplinary team services within the Local Care Team locality/in-patient setting/day and treatment/community.
  • To manage a caseload of clients with multiple and complex needs, using evidence based/client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
  • To provide specialist Therapeutic input into planning, development and evaluation of clinical services within the team, with responsibility for defined project

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The role involves providing integrated therapy assessment and interventions to the residents of Felixstowe and surrounding area, who are 18+  and  registered with a Felixstowe GP. Our main aim is to support, maintain and encourage people in the ageing well process.

Our service runs 8 am-6 pm, 7 days a week. Staff are required to work approximately 1 in 10 weekends, with flexible working available within the hours of the service.

 You will be working with a caseload including neurological conditions, palliative plus frailty and falls assessment and management – all with a view to preventing admission and supporting early discharge. Many of our patients have a complexity of needs across the spectrum of physical, mental and social care health.

You will need to be a Car Driver and have access to a car for work which is community based

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy/Physiotherapy
  • Health Professions Council Registration
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of an appropriate professional body

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Experience of the supervision of staff and students
  • • Experience of participating in research and audit
  • • Evidence of skill relevant to the rehabilitation of adults with physical disabilities gained through theory and practical course and experience
  • • Experience of working with adults with complex physical, sensory and cognitive disabilities
  • • Experience of working with a range of primary and community services including Health, Social Care Services and the independent Sector.
  • • Proven post registration experience within a multi-disciplinary service
  • • Leadership experience in a Health/Social care setting. Planning decision making skills
Desirable criteria
  • • Current professional student practice placement educator training and associated skills
  • • Membership of a special interest group relevant to the role

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • Documented evidence of Continuing Professional Development
  • • To demonstrate a knowledge of Health & Safety legislation for self and others
  • • Current knowledge and skills of moving and handling dependent adults and older people
  • • Knowledge of current manual handling regulations
  • • A clear understanding of, and commitment to clinical governance, health and safety and risk assessment
  • • A knowledge of primary and community services
  • • An in-depth knowledge and understanding of the NHS Plan and NSF’s relating to own and associated services and the implications for service provision. High level of skill in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with relevant stakeholders
  • • Knowledge and understanding of professional and ethical issues.
  • • A specialist knowledge and application of current best practice in the rehabilitation of adults with physical disabilities
  • • A clear understanding of, and a high level of commitment to clinical governance.
