Job overview

Our Weight Management Service will deliver bariatric/metabolic surgery, endoscopic and medical weight management treatments to the North Essex and Suffolk population.

To support us in this new service we have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Bariatric Dietitian for an initial period of 12 months.

The role will provide both direct patent care and leadership of the bariatric dietetic team, including training, developing competency frameworks and day to day management of the team.

You will be a core member of the Multidisciplinary Team meetings and discuss each patient’s suitability for treatment to agree with other members of the MDT a shared decision for treatment for each patient.

You will have significant previous experience in specialist Tier 4 bariatric dietetics and be experienced with the assessment and pre and post-operative care of bariatric patients.

You will be BDA registered with recent NHS bariatric practice and be a member of the BDA Obesity special interest group

You should be at a stage in your career where you are ready to lead a team of dietitians and develop training and competency frameworks, supervise and carry out appraisal. We will provide you with mentorship and training for the leadership/management elements of the role. All members of the MDT will be required to complete SCOPE training within 12 months and become a member of BOMSS.

Internal applicants currently employed by ESNEFT will be offered on a secondment basis only.

Main duties of the job

Delivery of the Clinical Governance agenda in the Weight Management Service  working within the Trust framework of Clinical Governance ensuring clinical services deliver quality, performance and operational objectives.

Continuous improvement of clinical productivity, patient safety and experience for all patients and carers.

Management of the dietetic elements of the Weight Management Service, ensuring the delivery of high quality, timely care

Ensuring the implementation of national and Trust initiatives, quality improvement initiatives and the Trusts quality priorities as outlined in the quality account and quality strategy

Accountable for the provision of safe and effective workforce requirements to meet patient needs and to develop a future workforce in line with the National and Trusts workforce strategy

Contribute to service design and transformation, including workforce requirements to optimise efficiency and effectiveness while reducing waiting times and delivering financial efficiencies.

Provide leadership for Dietitians working in the Weight Management Service.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree or Diploma in Dietetics
  • HCPC registration
  • Professional qualification relevant to the role
  • Masters Degree in relation to health management or equivalent experience that recognises developed and complex levels of knowledge, which enable the development of original responses to complicated and unpredictable problems and situations. Professional training / Learning at this level will need to demonstrate highly developed professional knowledge, which is appropriate for senior professionals / managers
Desirable criteria
  • Masters Degree or working toward/unit/departments Masters Degree level education
  • Management Leadership Qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Proven experience at senior therapist level including substantial recent experience as Band 7
  • Extensive post graduate/post registration experience
  • Current health policy and its impact on the management and development of acute health services
  • Extensive specialist experience in a Tier 3 and 4 Weight Management Service
  • Experience of staff management and team leadership
Desirable criteria
  • Leadership Facilitator
  • Experience of leading strategic/cross Trust changes
  • Experience in preparing business cases
  • Experience of effective budgetary management

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Heightened awareness of national therapy initiatives
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to liaise & negotiate
  • Proven ability to lead teams effectively, exercising sound judgement
  • Knowledge & application of research methodologies
  • Implementation of clinical audit methodologies
