Job overview

We invite an experienced and committed Psychologist to join our team in a permanent, full-time, senior position. We are based at the King’s Wood Centre and embedded within the age-inclusive Specialist Dementia Service (SDS). Our team bases are in Colchester and Clacton and serve the North East locality of the Trust.

Our service has been commissioned and developed to meet the needs of people with dementia, their families and those who care for them. We are MSNAP accredited and staffed by a dedicated and compassionate multidisciplinary team. Your role will be varied, including a mix of direct clinical work on an individual and group basis, consultation, supervision, training and evaluation, as well as taking on leadership responsibilities on behalf of the Consultant Lead Psychologist where appropriate.

You will be responsible for overseeing psychology provision into our post-diagnostic Dementia Support Team via delivery of high quality, evidence-based psychological therapy for people with dementia and complex mental health needs. You will also also have the opportunity to support the Consultant Lead Psychologist in service development via a strong emphasis on ensuring accessible and responsive pathways, service evaluation, embedding outcome measures, and contributing to service transformation in the locality.

The post comes with opportunities for CPD related to career progression and service needs with up to £6K available over three years, calculated pro-rata.

Main duties of the job

You will be well supported by a team of three qualified psychologists; two apprentice CAPs and two Assistant Psychologists working across our Memory Assessment Service, Mild Cognitive Impairment pathway, older adult inpatient wards, and post-diagnostic dementia services. Line management and supervision will be provided by the Consultant Psychologist. Our team’s CPD interests are diverse and include qualifications in neuropsychology, ACT, EMDR, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapies.

We are looking for a candidate with a strong interest in the application of psychological therapies to older people and adjustment to long-term/progressive/neurological conditions who enjoys working closely with MDT colleagues and wants the opportunity to contribute to service development. An interest in neuropsychology is also welcome. This role will suit somebody with a desire for variety and autonomy in their professional role, and will provide significant opportunities for growth.

Psychologists working in the Trust enjoy close academic and training links with the University of Essex Doctoral Training Course and CAP programme and provide regular placements for trainees. You will also benefit from access to the wider professional network in the Psychological Services Directorate with interests in CFT, DBT, systemic therapy, CAT and psychotherapy.
