We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and motivated Learning Disability or Mental Health Nurse to join us in the Children’s Learning Disability Service (CLDS) . The CLDS cover Essex, Southend and Thurrock and are a community based provision for children aged between 5-18, who have a diagnosis of Moderate to Severe Learning Disability, and who engage in difficult to manage behaviour within their home environment.
Professionals within the team currently include those from a Nursing (both RNLD and RMN) Occupational Therapy and Social Work background.
Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd
The team offers specialist assessment and treatment for children, with the aim of developing individual and evidence based Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) plans. There is a focus on providing education for parents and carers relating to the possible reasons for their children’s behaviour, in addition to the practicalities of how this can be prevented and/or managed.
Assessments offered by the team presently include: Functional Behaviour Assessment; Sensory Processing Assessment and Community Based Sleep Assessment. Direct work with children is also offered, and includes Emotional Wellbeing Support and Relationships and Sex Education.
The CLDS places a strong value on multi-professional working, both internally, and with the wider systems involved with children accessing the service and their families to ensure that the care provided is holistic and well coordinated.

What is Staff Bank?
Our EPUT NHS staff bank is an entity managed by the trust that hires clinical and non-clinical healthcare professionals to take on shifts at our trust hospitals and community settings. Here at EPUT we maintain our own bank of specialist staff to ensure that we are able offer safe and effective care at all times.
All our permanent staff are automatically enrolled onto the staff bank however this does not mean you have to work any additional shifts, but the option is there for you if you wish.

Under the guidance of the team’s Clinical Manager, the appointee is responsible for managing a defined caseload of children with behavioural difficulties associated with their learning disability diagnosis, using evidence-based / client-centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions. The appointee will be expected to act as a full member of the Children’s Learning Disability Service, providing leadership for some junior staff as delegated by the Clinical Manager, and to supervise students on practice placement. The appointee will be asked to contribute to the ongoing development of the service and to participate in the planning, development and evaluation of services within the team.

Knowledge

- Knowledge of Child Protection issues and the principles of working with people with LD
- Knowledge of relevant legal frameworks. e.g. Mental Health Act, Children Act, Human Rights Act, Every Child Matters,
- Learning Disability assessment skills, including observation, assessment of behaviours which challenge, and experience with understanding the function to such behaviours.

- Knowledge of specialist intervention/treatment, i.e. ABA / sensory integration
- Application and understanding of child development theories, attachment theories and practice and growth of the child in the family
Skills

- Good oral communication skills based on fluency on the English language

- Skill in producing high standard of written reports
