Job overview
We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and motivated Occupational Therapist to join us in the Children’s Learning Disability Service (CLDS) . The CLDS cover Essex, Southend and Thurrock and are a community based provision for children aged between 5-18, who have a diagnosis of Moderate to Severe Learning Disabilities, and who engage in difficult to manage behaviour within their home environment.
Professionals within the team currently include those from a Nursing (both RNLD and RMN) and Occupational Therapy background.
Main duties of the job
The team offers specialist assessment and treatment for children, with the aim of developing individual and evidence based Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) plans. There is a focus on providing education for parents and carers relating to the possible reasons for their children’s behaviour, in addition to the practicalities of how this can be prevented and/or managed.
Assessments offered by the team presently include: Functional Behaviour Assessment; Sensory Processing Assessment and Community Based Sleep Assessment. Direct work with children is also offered, and includes Emotional Wellbeing Support and Relationships and Relationships and Sex Education.
The CLDS places a strong value on multi-professional working, both internally, and within the wider systems involved with children accessing the service and their families to ensure that the care provided is holistic and well coordinated.
