Job overview

Colchester Hospital has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join our caring, supportive, and compassionate theatre teams as a Theatre Support Worker. This position is ideal for an individual who is passionate and committed to delivering high-quality patient focused care.

At Colchester, our theatre suites comprise of 17 days case and inpatient theatres.  Constable Theatres have patients for elective orthopaedics, orthopaedic trauma, gynaecology and breast surgery. There will be opportunity to gain skills in other specialties by rotating internally to the other theatre suites.

Main duties of the job

In this role you will support patients throughout their theatre journey, working with a multi-disciplinary theatre team ensuring an individual, safe and positive experience.

Training will be provided and you will learn extensive skills within an acute theatre environment.

If you have a good standard of written and verbal communication, have a support and flexible approach to service delivery and would like to train as a theatre support worker, this may be the position for you.

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience in a health setting

  • Experience within an acute setting

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Care certificate achieved
  • Evidence of completed competencies as part of a professional portfolio.
  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of functional skills or willingness to undertake.
  • Willingness to undertake further study

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Awareness of physical, psychological and spiritual needs of patient’s relatives and carers.
  • Awareness of the nature of the carers role in assisting patients to fulfil basic human needs.
  • Knowledge of clinical procedures and observations
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding of risk management, health and safety issues, including safe manual handling.
