The Essex and Suffolk Elective Orthopaedic Centre at Colchester Hospital will be one of the largest centres of its kind in Europe.

 

In this role, you will assist the Surgeon to facilitate the smooth running of the surgical programme within the Directorate and undertake some aspects of work currently undertaken by junior doctors. This will involve all aspects of surgical treatment encompassing elective work with relation to major revision knee surgery through to outpatient procedures.

 

Under the direction of the Consultant Surgeons, you will facilitate the delivery of peri-operative care. You will be expected to perform these duties with a high degree of clinical skills and knowledge to achieve effective patient care.

 

Please note, this is a Band 8a role however a Band 7 developmental role will be considered for candidates who require support in completing the relevant Masters for this role.  

The Dame Clare Marx Building that will house our elective orthopaedic centre (ESEOC) opens in 2024 with a focus on elective orthopaedic surgery and day cases. The centre will have eight laminar flow theatres, three wards, recovery facilities, and support services including radiology and EBME.

·         You will work collaboratively with the Consultant Surgeons and junior medical staff to ensure that the full potential of this role is utilised.

·         To be an independent holistic practitioner, delivering care during the peri-operative period and acting as the patient’s advocate.

·         To be a lead specialist in the specialty with the ability to practice autonomously in the absence of medical staff e.g. final wound closure following surgery etc.

·         As a nurse, will work within the boundaries dictated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council and be professionally accountable for his / her own practice.

·         You will have been trained and assessed as fully competent in the skills and activities required of the role to ensure that a high quality of patient care is maintained.

  • MSc Surgical Care Practitioner
  • Registered Nurse /Allied Health Professional with current professional registration
  • Professional qualifications: ENB 176 / ENB 183
  • ENB 998 / Mentorship Preparation Programme or equivalent

  • Basic Surgical Skills Qualification or equivalent
  • Non-Medical Prescribing

Experience

  • Evidence of continuing professional development at degree / level
  • Experience of collaborative patient-centred working with statutory and voluntary agencies
  • Proven experience in either Orthopaedic theatre/ward setting
