Job overview

We are looking for a qualified and registered pharmacy technician with a passion for stock control and medicines optimisation.

As a Pharmacy Technician stock controller you will be fully supported to complete a multitude of stock control tasks, including but not limited to, daily stock checks, audit of high cost and high risk items and involvement in stock management groups as well as liaising with high cost Technicians, medication safety Pharmacists and members of the wider multi-disciplinary teams.

You will provide a high quality service to our patients you will have opportunity to work within the dispensaries as well as clinically at ward level. All relevant training will be given and you will be supported in other professional personal development training.

You must be able to follow written procedures, work under supervision and complete tasks accurately to set deadlines.

You will be based in the dispensary at Colchester Hospital but may be required to provide cover on occasion at Ipswich Hospital.

Main duties of the job

  • Take responsibility for the “pharmaceutical care” of patients within particular clinical areas and wards during periods of duty in those areas.
  • Take responsibility for stock control within the dispensaries, focusing on high cost / high risk drugs, being a super user for automated dispensing, evaluating and adjusting re-order levels and re-order quantities to ensure efficient stock holding and reducing wastage / expiry.
  • To minimise wastage through expired stock held across the Trust.
  • Contribute to the financial control of medicines by ensuring that all medicines are utilised within the realms of the Trust formulary, agreed local guidance via the Medicines Optimisation Committee and national processes (NICE, nationally commissioned medicines etc.)
  • Minimising medicines-associated risk and ensuring medication safety in accordance with local and national guidance.
