Job overview
Collingwood centre at Colchester Hospital has two exciting opportunities for Band 5 nurses. We have a secondment cover post finishing in March 2025.
You will join an established, experienced team of nurses, pharmacists and admin roles to provide a high standard of treatment for Haematology and Oncology patients.
The Collingwood centre is a day unit offering SACT treatments for Haematology Oncology patients. Non-malignant haematology conditions are also managed through the day unit.
In this post you will be supported to develop your knowledge and skills in the management and care of Haematology and Oncology patients.
This post is full time –37.5 per week, to be worked Monday to Friday either over 5 or 4 days per week.
Internal applicants currently employed by ESNEFT will be offered on a secondment basis only. Please ensure you have discussed this with your line manager.
Main duties of the job
- To deliver high quality, evidence based, safe, cost effective care to all patients and families.
- To complete a recognised accredited Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy course ( SACT)
- To complete the UKINS Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy passport.
- To access patients pre SACT-carrying out a full toxicity screen and ensure the patients are safe to proceed with treatment.
- To work across the clinical areas to develop and enhance clinical skills and practice, including part of a rotation to the Mobile Cancer Unit

- Proven significant post registration experience

- Previous experience of co-ordinating a busy health care environment
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Competent in Venepuncture and blood sampling
- Competent in cannulation
- Use of PGDS
Desirable criteria
- Ability to disseminate knowledge to others
