Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse to work within our fast paced  Gynaecology Outpatient Department at Colchester Hospital.

You will effectively manage and develop the nursing services and provide professional and managerial leadership in the delivery of high quality, safe, cost effective care of patients, families and staff.

You will inspire and facilitate the development of department staff by providing an open supportive and encouraging environment in which all staff fell valued and where best practice prospers. 

We are looking for an individual who will support the Matron in leading and developing the experienced nursing team in this department and promote multi-disciplinary working.

This is part time post- 15 hours per week.

 

 

Main duties of the job

  • Assumes responsibility, as delegated by the Ward Sister, for the management of both human and financial resources, within the department in an effective and efficient manner, liaising with speciality matron, Service Manager and Associate Director as required.
  • Use clinical expertise and work in a collaborative way to extend the role of nursing to meet the needs of the patient, carer and family. (Delivery of care in accordance with Working in New Ways guidelines.
  • Acts as a role model to develop and encourage harmonious working relationships and professional rapport within the department and with other disciplines, departments and external agencies.
  •   Manages clinical risk by ensuring all nurses take individual responsibility for the assessment of patient care needs and the development, planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care within the department
  •   Takes the responsibility for setting and implementing evidenced based standards of care within the department in co-operation with the appropriate clinical nurse specialist and/or practice development nurse as identified by the Trust, supported by the Practice Development Team.
