Job overview

We have a fantastic opportunity for  Quality, Safety and Governance Lead Midwife at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust.

You should share our passion and drive to ensure that our patients receive the best quality and compassionate care. 

You will report to and work in collaboration with the Director of Midwifery (DOM) and the Clinical Lead Consultant Obstetrician to establish effective maternity governance systems focussed on patient safety.

You will provide an oversight of the strategic and operational delivery of all aspects or quality assurance pertinent to the business of clinical governance in maternity, gynaecology and paediatrics.

Main duties of the job

Lead on monitoring standards of a range of clinical governance, clinical effectiveness and patient safety activity, in liaison with other multidisciplinary professionals and functional heads within the Patient Safety Team.

Maintain strong working relationships with clinical colleagues and will work with the Divisional Clinical Governance Leads and Divisional Management Team to deliver on the requirements of this post. 


Ensure the triangulation of information and intelligence from across the Department, the division and the Trust, in order to provide leadership and direction in relation to Quality Governance, Effectiveness and Quality Improvements. 

 Be an expert clinical midwife, to ensure credibility in undertaking and the delivery of their role

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NMC registered midwife (current)
  • Masters level education or equivalent experience.
  • Post registration qualification with relevant Master’s degree or equivalent and or working towards that includes leadership in the areas of Quality Assurance, Governance, Audit and Quality Improvement
  • Trained in Root Cause with ability to analyse aggregated management systems
  • PSIRF training undertaken or willingness to undertake
Desirable criteria
  • Recognised qualification in the field of quality assurance, compliance and governance
  • Recognised Leadership/management qualification.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience working in a senior management role / level and working within a key leadership role, within a complex organisation
  • Expert midwifery clinical experience of working across all professional boundaries, can demonstrate credible midwifery knowledge.
  • Experience of working with multi professional staff groups
  • Experience of risk management process, Incident investigations, and shared learning
  • Evidence of ability to deliver training, and providing governance advice to clinicians and other senior managers
  • Experience of drafting and developing policies and establishing compliance processes and procedures
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of implementing change in clinical practice system wide
  • Experience of working in risk and governance role across a Women’s and Children’s Division.
