Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and experienced registered nurse to join our friendly Endoscopy team at Colchester Hospital.
We provide a service for inpatient and outpatients undertaking diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including bowel cancer screening, Endoscopies, Bronchoscopies, ERCP, EBUS and ascitic drains. We are a very busy unit providing care from 0730 to 1900 Monday to Sunday and also an out of hours on call service which Nurses, once trained, will be expected to participate in.
We will help you to learn and develop your current skills to the highest standards, enabling you to enhance your expertise in delivering a range of Endoscopic therapeutic interventions.

Main duties of the job
You will work collaboratively within the Endoscopy team and support the Endoscopy Manager to deliver a highly skilled, safe and efficient service for our patients.
In this role you will act as the named nurse and effectively manage the care of a group of patients. You will lead a team in the absence of the ward manager/or deputy on a shift by shift basis. You will participates actively as a Coordinator with the supervision and guidance of the deputy/ or ward manager. You will also provide supervision and guidance for other more junior members of the team.
Salary will be pro rata for part time hours

- Proven recent post registration experience
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience in endoscopy an advantage
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse
- Relevant post-registration study e.g., specialist pathway
- Demonstrable record of Continuing Professional Development
Desirable criteria
- Teaching in health promotion qualification
- Non- medical prescriber qualification
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge and understanding of confidentiality issues.
- Aware of national agenda and changes to improve cancers services.
- Knowledge of clinical governance, risk management, valid consent
- Knowledge of Equality and Diversity and withdrawal of consent
Desirable criteria
- Extensive knowledge of endoscopy procedures
Skills
Essential criteria
- Good communication skills
- Ability to supervise unqualified staff
- Ability to co-ordinate a shift for the department
- Knowledge of clinical and non-clinical governance issues
- Positive attitude to change and a willingness to be instrumental in change
