Job overview
Applicants are invited for the post of Band 7 Specialist Paediatric Diabetes Dietitian at Colchester General Hospital.
This is an exciting role with joint clinical responsibility for the paediatric diabetes dietetic service including the pump service. The Dietitian is an integral part of the MDT and participates in case conferences and multidisciplinary clinics. The successful candidate will work as part of the paediatric diabetes multidisciplinary team including a full time dietitian, already in post, Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurses, Consultants, Psychologist and Transition nurse
The ideal candidate will have vast experience in clinical dietetics and considerable experience in paediatric diabetes. The post holder must have excellent communication and leadership skills, be flexible and be able to use their own initiative to develop the service.
The Nutrition and Dietetic Department is a friendly department providing dietetic service across acute and community care. The wider paediatric dietetic team includes specialist posts in Neonatal care, allergy and gastroenterology. The team is supported by dietetic assistants and administrative staff. CPD and personal development are actively encouraged. The department also takes part in regular student training.

Main duties of the job
To be responsible for the provision of highly specialised dietetic advice to paediatric patients with Type 1 diabetes requiring nutritional intervention alongside another specialist paediatric diabetes dietitian.
To work as part of the wider multi-disciplinary team in provision and development of the service including the provision of protocols as under pinned by the clinical governance framework
To educate and train all levels of healthcare professional and medical staff on paediatric nutrition and specialist areas within paediatrics.
To be a member of the paediatric multidisciplinary team and participate in ward rounds, team meetings, case conferences and specialist clinics.
To actively participate in student training.
To line manage junior staff where required

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- •BSc Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent
- Current HCPC registration in Dietetics
- Clinical Supervisory Skills Course/ Student training courses
Desirable criteria
- •Member of British Dietetic Association
- Member of paediatric group of BDA
- Post registration training in paediatric dietetics (modular courses in paediatrics)
Experience
Essential criteria
- Good clinical knowledge and experience
- Evidence of on-going Professional Development at Masters Level
- Significant experience working in dietetics at a senior level and in paediatric dietetics in particular
- Considerable experience working in different clinical settings within paediatric dietetics and diabetes
- Experience in Audit & Research
- Experience of service development
- Basic IT skills in order to be able to use Trust Intranet and to input patient activity data
Desirable criteria
- Experience of line management
