Job overview
We have an exciting opportunity for Medical PA post based in Colchester Hospital, Ophthalmology department.
We are looking for an efficient, conscientious, well-motivated, enthusiastic and experienced secretary, with the skills to provide dedicated clerical support to both the clinical and administrative teams to the Ophthalmology department.
The post will be based in the administration office at the Primary Care Centre and offers the opportunity to join a well established, high achieving, committed team.
Please note, this is a fixed term/secondment position until 31st December 2025. Internal candidates will be offered a secondment position only.
Main duties of the job
As a member of the Ophthalmic Medical PA Team, you will have a key role in providing a seamless service for Ophthalmology patients attending hospital for clinical diagnostic assessment or surgery.
The primary function of this job currently revolves around the provision of day-to-day medical secretarial support for two Consultants, however, it is essential to help and support all members of the team by having a flexible approach to both workload, additional tasks and working patterns.

Essential criteria
- GCSE grade 5/C or equivalent in English and Maths
- NVQ level 3 in administration/secretarial or equivalent
Experience

- Proven experience as a PA or secretary
- Experience of working for a large team

- Previous NHS experience
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and to prioritise workload /meet deadlines
- Able to use own initiative and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
