Counsellor

Band 6

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is now one of the largest trusts in the country, serving a population of 1.2 million people. Our newly formed Trust, comprising acute hospital sites at Broomfield in Chelmsford, Basildon and Southend,  is determined to provide the best health services for its local population. We are a well-led, high-performing and innovative organisation working in the best interests of the people we serve.

Job overview

We are looking to recruit a Band 6   Adult Counsellor, Psychotherapist or equivalent for our Psychological Therapies Service at Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford. This is an ideal post for someone keen to start working in health settings in a more applied way. This can be fulltime or a job share.

We are looking for appropriately qualified, enthusiastic, and highly motivated individuals, who are resilient and flexible and able to meet the challenge of this work. We require candidates who are able to work on their own initiative, as well as in a team with a displayed interest in the link between physical and psychological health.

Main duties of the job

The Psychological Therapies Service is a hospital based psychological service, offering treatment for both inpatients and outpatients from a wide range of medical specialties.

We are a vibrant multidisciplinary team which includes psychotherapists, counsellors, clinical and counselling psychologists, mental health liaison staff and administrators. We prioritise supporting our staff and their development by providing both individual and group supervision as well as regular team discussions.

It is a unique service, covering the whole spectrum of patient groups treated within this large, acute hospital which houses the internationally renowned St Andrews Centre for Plastic Surgery and Burns. The post involves working with adult patients managing a range of health conditions and their families. It will also involve supporting staff through the staff counselling service.

Working for our organisation

We work together, and in conjunction with MSE Health and Care Partnership, to deliver excellent local and specialist services, to improve the health and wellbeing of our patients in a compassionate way, and provide a respectful, but vibrant place for staff to develop, innovate and build careers.

From facilities through to consultant specialists we want to be the best, to achieve this we need to recruit not just those who are the finest in their field but also those who have the potential to be. Yes, experience is important but so is outlook – if you are dynamic, forward-thinking and enthusiastic we want you to join us.

We not only offer you a good working environment with flexible working opportunities, but also the opportunity to develop your career with access to appropriate training for your job and the support to succeed and progress.
