Our newly formed Trust, comprising acute hospital sites at Broomfield in Chelmsford, Basildon and Southend,  is determined to provide the best health services for its local population. We are a well-led, high-performing and innovative organisation working in the best interests of the people we serve.

Job overview

An exciting development opportunity has arisen for an experienced midwife to join our friendly team as the Fetal Medicine Lead Midwife. The post holder will work closely with the Antenatal Screening Coordinator as well as the Midwifery Outpatient Matron.

The Fetal Medicine Unit (FMU) is a woman centred and family focused service with a strong ethos for quality improvement. It is delivered by a team which is motivated and works well across all disciplines. The Fetal Medicine Lead Midwife would be a valuable member of that team and we would expect the same commitment.

The post holder will contribute to the safe, effective, and efficient running of the Fetal Medicine service in the provision of excellent maternity care for women and families accessing the FMU services. The role requires effective team working across several professional groups and departments to offer safe, personal and effective care.

As a team we care about building trusting relationships with women to ensure a positive experience throughout their maternity journey.

So if you would like to be a big part of driving forward positive experiences for our staff and patients, we'd like to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

The Specialist Midwife for Fetal Medicine is expected to be an expert clinical midwife who will give advice and guidance on the midwifery care of women, babies and their families.

The post holder will provide clinical and managerial leadership and will lead and coordinate midwives to provide midwifery care for women during the fetal medicine pathway.

The Specialist Midwife for Fetal Medicine will work in partnership with the Antenatal and Newborn Screening (ANNBS) Midwives, and ensure that abnormal screening results are responded to expediently and within the appropriate time frames.

The Specialist Midwife for Fetal Medicine will participate in the provision of effective individualised, women-centred, evidence based midwifery care. They will provide professional leadership and participate in the education and training of all staff. This is not an exhaustive list and is subject to change depending upon departmental requirements.
