If you are enthusiastic, forward thinking, enjoy a clinical challenge and want to use ALL your OT skills then this is the post for you.

The Intensive Outreach Team uses a systemic approach ensuring that those with complex and challenging needs are provided with a robust support framework to ensure their sustainability in the community. As the Occupational Therapist in the team you role is to identify and provide therapeutic interventions and strategies that support engagement and motivation, enable a person to be more functionally independent and to be empowered in their own life.

The team comprises of various disciplines and work with various agencies to ensure the cohort of patients under the care of IOT have a seamless access to a variety of services. The post holder will be responsible for a rehab caseload and work as an integrated member of an effective team to support one another with the team caseload as required. The successful applicant will be supported by the Team Manager and Head Occupational Therapist.  

If you are highly motivated and committed, with a strong desire to succeed and help to continue to develop a recovery focused service then you could be the person we are looking for. Ideally, you will have experience in mental health, excellent communication and organisational skills and an interest in working with people with complex and challenging needs.

To work as a Senior Clinician within a Rehabilitation Framework as part of the Intensive Outreach Team providing specialist psychosocial recovery-based interventions. 

Thus, providing intensive rehabilitation to individuals referred to the Rebab Service within the South East of Essex.

To work in collaboration with the CMHT, IOT and other stakeholders to maximise engagement.

To work together with the IOT team to identify those individuals who have rehabilitative potential and would benefit from Occupational Therapy.

Our EPUT NHS staff bank is an entity managed by the trust that hires clinical and non-clinical healthcare professionals to take on shifts at our trust hospitals and community settings. Here at EPUT we maintain our own bank of specialist staff to ensure that we are able offer safe and effective care at all times.

All our permanent staff are automatically enrolled onto the staff bank however this does not mean you have to work any additional shifts, but the option is there for you if you wish.

Clinical Duties:

1.    To assess clients referred to the service, and provide specialist rehabilitation focused assessments for those identified for specialist OT input

2.    To utilise specialist interventions when presented with complex cases.

3.    To make decisions on the level of treatment intervention required.

4.    To undertake treatment planning, communicating and negotiating treatment plans and clinical reasoning for intervention with clients and extended support network.

5.    To communicate agreed treatment/care plans to multi-disciplinary team colleagues and partnership agencies and liaise with them at formal and informal meetings.

6.    To work in collaboration with others to modify aspects of the environment in order to empower clients and facilitate optimal functional performance.

7.    To communicate agreed treatment/care plans to multi-disciplinary team colleagues and partnership agencies and liaise with them at formal and informal meetings.

8.    To manage a complex caseload and work autonomously.

9.    To apply a variety of treatment modalities to meet the needs of clients in individual or group format, utilising clinical reasoning processes to determine the most appropriate setting for intervention.

10.  To liaise with in-patient and community based services to maximise functional independence for the client and least restrictive care.

11. To make clinically informed decisions in order to delegate aspects of client care to assistants, junior staff, students, carers and statutory or non-statutory bodies.

12. To regularly review client’s progress in order to evaluate and interpret effectiveness of treatment plans, and amend treatment or discharge clients accordingly.

13. To ensure that treatment offered is based on the best available evidence for effectiveness in the specialist area where it is applied.

14. To develop and initiate interventions based on the integration of theoretical knowledge in order to meet unique client needs.

15. To keep up to date clinical records in line with professional standards and local record keeping policies.

16. To provide written and verbal reports as required at any stage in the treatment process in line with Occupational Therapy/Nursing/Trust Clinical Governance Standards.

Indirect Clinical Duties:

1.    To be an integral member of the MDT where consultancy, advise and collaborative working is essential for all clients on team caseload.

2.    To attend clinical case discussions at meetings or ward rounds.

3.    To participate in complex multi-agency and professional meetings

4.    To participate in clinical audit, research and evidence based practice.

5.    To undertake day to day clinical prioritisation.

6.    To identify clinical service needs and initiate projects, which could be developed in order to meet challenges.

7.    To promote the roles and skills of community therapy provision to other professionals, students, clients and carers.

8.    To contribute constructively to multi-disciplinary team working.

9.    To occasionally represent the Team at service development forums.

Profession Specific Duties:

1.    To attend professional meetings as required.

2.    To take responsibility for developing as a professional.

3.    To maintain a continuing professional development portfolio.

4.    To undertake annual appraisal.

5.    To contribute constructively to the supervision process.

6.    To provide supervision to junior staff and students.

7.    To occasionally represent the service at development forums.

8.    To comply with policies and agreed procedures for annual leave, sickness and time owing.

9.    To complete daily diary sheets for statistical purposes.

10. To supervise a minimum of one student per year.
