Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a pharmacist to join the Mid and South Essex  (MSE) NHS Foundation Trust.  The post holder will be appointed to the senior cardiology pharmacist role based at the Basildon hospital site. 

You will be working closely with the multidisciplinary teams in the Cardiology care group in the MSE District General hospital as well as the Essex Cardiothoracic Tertiary Centre at Basildon. You will be working in different cardiac specialities including heart and lung surgery, TAVI, device implants, heart failure, arrhythmia management and interventional cardiology. 

You will be part of an experienced and supportive team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, forming an integral part of the multidisciplinary team.  You will be encouraged to utilise your prescribing skills and support junior pharmacists through their accreditation and training. You will be delivering a high quality pharmacy service and working closely with pharmacy and non-pharmacy stakeholders.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Main duties of the job

  • Working closely with the multidisciplinary team and taking a proactive and leading role in implementing evidence based practice.
  • Training of the pharmacy and multidisciplinary teams including trainee, foundation and specialist pharmacists.
  • Management of medicine shortages, ensuring that risk assessments are undertaken where needed.
  • Deputise for the Lead Cardiology pharmacist where necessary including governance and clinical meetings.
  • Develop and implement new protocols and procedures, and assist in development of pharmaceutical aspects of policies.
  • Proactive in taking part in research opportunities.
  •           Be proactive in risk management, ensuring that all clinical incidents are reported and appropriate action taken in conjunction with the Principal Pharmacist and/or the specialist risk management pharmacist.

Person specification

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Master's Degree in Pharmacy (or equivalent)
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent Post Graduate qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
  • Independent Prescriber

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive relevant pharmacy experience including providing a clinical pharmacy service to a variety of specialities and dealing with clinical service interface issues.
  • Minimum of 4 years relevant post registration experience.
  • Line management experience
Desirable criteria
  • Project/Practice research
  • Experience in teaching and training of Pharmacy and MDT staff
  • Financial awareness regarding the management of drug budgets.
