Job overview

We ae excited to invited applications for the post of Locum Consultant Obs and Gyn at Basildon Hospital site (Mid and South Essex Trust) on a 6 month fixed term contract joining a team of  13  Consultants providing Obs & Gyn services to the population of Basildon and the surrounding area.

This appointment is for a full-time Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with a specialist interest in Diabetes.  The post holder will be expected to further develop our pre-existing multidisciplinary diabetes working in close collaboration with other consultants. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver ante-natal and general gynaecology clinics and elective theatres. They will also be expected to contribute to our well-established diabetes MDTs.

The post holder will be expected to be actively involved in the clinical governance aspects of the directorate and the trust including risk management and CNST.

Main duties of the job

Your role will be to provide a consultant-led service in Obs and Gyn, working as a member of the multi-disciplinary team to offer expert opinion and considerate advice to women with complications in any stage of pregnancy and acute gynaecology whilst developing the Obs and Gyn service by working closely with other colleagues to standardise pathways of care.

You will provide training for trainees in the specialty of Obs and Gyn, evolve and write pathways for patients seen within the Obs and Gyn service, work with the multidisciplinary team to undertake a senior role in the general provision of Obs and Gyn Services at Basildon Hospital and MSE and provide senior leadership in the management of high-risk patients antenatally, intrapartum and postpartum in close co-operation with other specialties.

The successful candidate will provide expert input to cases within the central delivery suite that deviate from the normal. To provide risk analysis and management plans for all cases that require specialist input.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or Equivalent
  • Completed MRCOG or equivalent.
  • CCT in Obstetrics & Gynaecology
Desirable criteria
  • MCs, MD, PhD, MA or Masters in Education or related discipline
  • Subspecialist training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist.
