Our Perfusion Department at the Essex CTC is recruiting a Trainee Perfusionist to join our supportive team. We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual, who is dynamic, forward thinking and a team player.
It’s an exciting time for our team as we have just introduced the cutting edge Quantum Heart Lung Machines . The successful candidate will have the opportunity to form a part of our valued and driven perfusion team, providing an effective highly specialist perfusion service to our patients, whilst working towards the latest innovative, evidence-based clinical techniques
The successful candidate should
- Hold a 2:1 (Hons) Biological/biomedical science/life-sciences degree.
- Have a good work ethic.
- Be emotionally intelligent with excellent interpersonal skills.
Main duties of the job
Learn and understand how to review patient's notes for relevant medical history, pathology and diagnosis and how this affects the clinical decision process regarding the conduct of extracorporeal support.
Assemble, prime, de-air and manage extracorporeal devices and circuitry.
Be able to assess, interpret and manage a wide range of highly complex conflicting clinical information and use this information to take appropriate action.
To assist in the provision of a departmental autologous cell salvage service.
To acquire an understanding and assist in the management of an intra-aortic counter pulsation service.
To act and think clearly and decisively under acute and emergency situations.
To be adaptable and dynamic within a clinical environment, engaging within a multi-disciplinary team.
To be self motivated, driven and be able to balance clinical duties alongside academic commitments.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To undertake the necessary training and examinations required to achieve the MSc qualification in Clinical Perfusion Science through Bristol University. Also to acquire the clinical perfusion skills during routine and emergency cardiac procedures.
The post holder will be managed continually and although there will be times when the post holder will be under direct supervision he/she should demonstrate a degree of initiative, be emotionally intelligent when working under pressure and be expected to work independently on designated tasks.
