We are looking for a forward thinking dynamic Modern Matron to join our Forensic inpatient leadership team.  The post covers our inpatient wards across medium and low secure inpatients wards, including pathways for mental illness, personality disorder and learning disabilities.

The ideal candidate will be committed to personal and staff professional development, be able to develop strong and collaborative working relationships with external agencies as well as retain a flexible approach. This is a key role to professionally lead the nursing team and continuously improve care pathways for patients in secure care and their families and carers to ensure high quality, safe and sustainable care.

The role supports the Divisional Clinical Lead, promoting professional nursing standards and supporting the teams to ensure nursing staff have the opportunity for clinical and professional development. The post holder will be expected to participate in the out of hours on call manager’s rota for the Trust.

The successful candidate will be a highly experienced nurse with demonstrable leadership experience and experience in forensic services. They should also have a commitment and desire to contribute to service improvement and multi-disciplinary working. 

Please note that this a part-time role at 30 hours per week over at least four days. We are unable to offer full-time hours.

  • Responsible for leading high quality nursing services within forensic inpatient settings including evidence based practice, infection control, clinical environment, safer staffing and clinical audits.
  • Co-manage a small team of forensic nurse specialists
  • Work closely with the other matron in the forensic division
  • Provide clinical supervision to nursing staff across the pathway
  • Provide expert advice and consultations across the wider system to our partner agencies
  • To work in partnership with service managers, professional leads and other colleagues, including in partner agencies
  • To continue to demonstrate advanced clinical skills in practice and provide support and advice re. clinical developments, delivery and co-ordination of the highest quality care in collaboration with service users, carers, staff, managers, other agencies, appropriate to the service area
  • Maintain compliance with, and development of, clinical policies, procedures and guidelines, including case management, co-ordinating care in an inpatient setting

Qualifications and Knowledge

  • Current NMC registration and be on the live register
  • Educated to Masters Level or Masters level or equivalent Post Graduate modules plus significant advanced knowledge/ experience
  • Full understanding of relevant policy, legislation, drivers and their application to clinical and service area, e.g. Mental Health Act code of practice, RCP standards for forensic mental health service, NHS Englend culture of care standards for inpatient services, National service framework: mental health, etc.
  • Full understanding/application of relevant clinical practice/standards/audit within identified clinical area
  • Evidence of leadership and organisational development issues that have had a positive impact on service delivery

Experience
