Job overview

Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit an enthusiastic and self-motivated Estates Site Technical Assistant within the Estates and Development team.  Are you looking for a career opportunity that provides the right balance between development and workplace responsibilities?

Main duties of the job

The ideal candidate will be flexible in their approach which can manage changing situations. 

Core functions will include:

  • To escort and supervise external contractors to ensure works are carried out in isolation to patients.
  • Provide access and information to sites for contractors etc.
  • To work alongside and provide immediate support to Development Teams within inpatient environments, which will include regular patient contact.
  • To undertake routine maintenance tasks such as water sampling and PAT testing.
  • Liaise with estates staff to facilitate the delivery of estate related works.
  • To be prepared to work in hazardous areas taking all safety measures to prevent danger, avoid injury and prevent damage to equipment.
  • To assist and liaise with contractors undertaking works on site, facilitating access when required.
  • Undertake unsupervised routine maintenance, for which related training and/or experience has been achieved, that does not justify a fully qualified maintenance craftsperson.
  • To plan and organise a range of tasks, where there is a need to make adjustments/reallocation e.g. admin work as directed by senior staff in line with service provision.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of maintenance tasks, e.g. basic, repairs, portable appliance testing (PAT Testing), labouring.
  • Ability and willingness to learn and understand basic technical duties and procedures.
  • 3 or more GCSE/O levels which must include English and Maths
Desirable criteria
  • Vocational Qualification in the testing of portable electrical equipment (City and Guilds accredited).
  • Broader knowledge, e.g. Boiler House, Medical Gas duties and PPM work (Fire Alarm Testing).

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Proven record of working as a semi- skilled multi-task operator, i.e. able to use a variety of relevant tools and equipment within safe working guidelines.
  • Basic knowledge of D.I.Y. skills
  • Basic I.T. skills
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of services within a healthcare/mental health environment.
  • Experience of working within an NHS or public sector environment, e.g. council / school/hospital.

Skills and Competencies

Essential criteria
  • Ability to interact appropriately with patients, staff and visitors and those having business with the building/unit.
  • Able to demonstrate effective communication skills.
  • Ability to commute effectively between the various sites.
  • Able to work on own initiative and as a team member.
  • To be aware of Health and Safety at Work requirements and of general safe working practices.
