Senior Physiotherapist: Major Trauma

Band 6

We are seeking an enthusiatic existing band 6, or band 5-6 progression Physiotherapist to join a newly formed team providing therapeutic care and treatment to patients admitted to hospital following Major Trauma

The successful candidate will  work within the Major Trauma Therapy Team implementing urgent and essential programmes of care and rehabilitation (in accordance with profession and skill set) and providing professional advice and support for patient following complex Major Trauma resulting in potential life changing injuries. The post holder will partake in undertaking complex clinical assessment following Major Trauma and support with the co-ordination of appropriate levels of rehabilitation (including discharge planning) through close liaison with patients, MDT members, carers and families. The role will require all patients to have their rehabilitation needs evaluated and Rehabilitation Prescriptions completed in line with best practice guidelines. 

We are seeking candidates who have a proven record of adaptability to changing environments and work well in a team. You will be expected to be a self motivated and active member of the multi-disciplinary team and build social networks working in partnership with other agencies to identify and address the immediate need.

This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic person to gain experience working as at a senior level, whilst consolidating existing skills and developing a higher specialist skill set.  

The post would suit a band 5 physiotherapist who has completed their core rotations and feels ready for the challenge of a senior  post. Or a current Band 6 Physiotherapist wishing to hone their clinical skills in Major Trauma Care.

All applicants must have previous experience in elements of Orthopaedics, Respiratory or Neuro-surgery within an acute setting and have completed B5 competencies to ensure relevant transferable skill. This is necessary to facilitate the rapid acquisition of the higher level skill set required to competently fulfill this role, and support the Clinical Lead Therapist. 

The post holder will be self motivated and aspirational, be able to assess in an effective and timely manner in a rapid paced environment. Confidence in enabling patients in positive risk taking, personalised care, assessment of capacity, manual handling, functional assessments and knowledge of the SAFER principles will be enhanced and nurtured within this role

Support will be provided to enhance operational management skills and the post holder will contribute to service planning, development and teaching. As a Senior Physiotherapist, the post holder will be a role model for their team and pride themselves on delivering high quality care and motivate their team to do the same.

  • Ability to demonstrate clinical experience at senior level in appropriate clinical specialities (Respiratory, Orthopaedics, Neuro-surgery, Neurology)

·         Good working clinical knowledge of specialist and standard community assistive equipment prescribing (including wheelchairs)

·         Demonstrate ability to prioritise caseload and delegate clinical and non-clinical duties to staff of a lower grade

·         Evidence of improvements in practice

·         Create opportunities to develop self and others

Ability to monitor and manage the performance of staff within the team
