Job overview

Do you want to work on the bank in a friendly, supportive and forward thinking department?

Our team works across Hull and East Yorkshire providing adult speech and language therapy across a number of community settings including community inpatient units, specialist multi disciplinary stroke services, community clinics and domiciliary visits. Our service sees clients with a range of conditions including neurological disorders, voice difficulties, stammering, frailty and respiratory conditions.

There is excellent admin support and established caseload management processes in the team to support staff. If you have a particular interest in working within a specific clinical area please let us know and we can see what we would be able to offer. Sessions would be offered according to your competency level. 

Main duties of the job

This post would be most suitable to therapists who have completed their Newly Qualified Practitioner framework and wishes to work some flexible sessions within our team. You will be supported by senior staff with advanced clinical knowledge in areas of stroke, voice, dysfluency, dysphagia and aphasia.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree/postgraduate qualification leading to licence to practice
  • RCSLT membership
  • HCPC registration
Desirable criteria
  • May hold other relevant qualifications in work related topics e.g. post graduate dysphagia qualification.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of a wide range of communication disorders
  • Knowledge of basic IT skills
  • Can demonstrate theoretical knowledge to support job role
  • Able to reflect on practice within supervision
  • Able to identify own learning needs and engage in self-study
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of dysphagia
  • Knowledge of a range of assessment materials
  • Knowledge of NHS initiatives
  • Knowledge of confidentiality/Caldicott/Data Protection legislation
  • Knowledge of RCSLT guidelines

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working within SLT services with a wide range of clients in undergraduate training.
  • Experience of caseload management strategies
  • Experience of liaison within the multi-disciplinary/multi-agency team
  • Experience in dealing successfully with difficult situations
Desirable criteria
  • Training/experience in presentation skills
  • Work experience with people with communication disabilities
  • Experience of report writing
  • Experience of using a range of assessment and intervention strategies
