Job overview
We are ideally looking for a trainee in the early years of their registrar training who can develop their orthopaedic career within this busy, progressive department. The successful applicant’s duties will include operating lists, outpatient clinics (elective and fracture) and ward rounds, with responsibilities for the consultant’s patients on the wards. The post holder is also responsible for the supervision of junior doctors in their day-to-day duties.
There is ample opportunity for training in this role with full supervision in clinics and theatres. The trainee would not have independent operating lists but plenty of operating lists with consultants and senior colleagues. The successful applicant would be expected to participate in a 1-in-8 non-resident 24 hour on call rota.
Main duties of the job
1 in 8 non resident on-call
Attend trauma meetings and present when post call
Regular theatre lists particulalrly focusing on trauma surgery and NOF fracture surgery under Consultant supervision
Fracture clinic experience
Regular ward round - supervising the FY2 / SHOs
Attend the SpR teaching every wednesday afternoon

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder accepts that they will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant, in consultation, where practicable, with their colleagues, both senior and junior. While it has been agreed between the professions that they will perform such duties, the Secretary of State stresses that additional commitments arising under this sub-section are exceptions and you should not be required to undertake work of this kind for prolonged periods or on a regular basis.

- • MRCS or appropriate specialist qualification
- • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
- • Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent
