Diabetes Nurse

NHS AfC: Band 5

Job overview

Are you an experienced registered nurse with a passion for developing your diabetes knowledge, skills and expertise?  We have an exciting new role that will enable you to develop your specialist nurse career within our West Sussex Community Diabetes Team, near to both the coast and beautiful countryside.  This is a rare opportunity to join our established team working across Chichester, Worthing, Burgess Hill and other West Sussex localities. We want to develop our established and experienced diabetes nursing team and will provide on-the-job training for a qualified nurse with a keen interest in diabetes care, so no previous specialist nurse experience is required.  It's an exciting, new, varied role that includes providing direct patient care in both clinic and domiciliary settings and facilitating health education groups.

Main duties of the job

Diabetes is an exciting clinical area, embracing pharmaceutical technologies to a growing population living with this long-term condition.  As well as an interest in diabetic management, you’ll need to be organised with great time-management skills as you’ll work alongside primary care colleagues to support patients living with diabetes to improve clinical outcomes.  You’ll receive regular clinical supervision as well as support and guidance from the team as you develop your knowledge and skills as you work towards specialist diabetes nursing competencies within an agreed timeframe.  We’ll also provide training and support for you to confidently facilitate our established Type 2 Group Education programme so no previous experience of delivering groups is required.

If you’re new to Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust, you will join our preceptorship programme, receiving protected time and regular clinical supervision with dedicated registered professional support.  This would ideally suit someone who wants week-day full-time working, and who has a driving licence with access to a vehicle to travel across the locality from a base to be agreed within West Sussex.
