The Conquest Hospital in Hastings and our Community Services were rated ‘Outstanding’ and Eastbourne DGH was rated ‘Good’ Our two acute hospitals have Emergency Departments and provide 24 hour a day care, offering a comprehensive range of surgical, medical, outpatient and maternity services, supported by a full range of diagnostic and therapy services. 


In the summer of 2020, the Trust launched its ambitious ‘Building for our Future’ (BFF) programme. This once in a lifetime programme aims to redevelop and expand our hospitals at Eastbourne, Hastings and Bexhill, transforming the environment in which we provide care for generations to come.

At Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital we offer outpatients, rehabilitation and intermediate services. At Uckfield Community Hospital we provide day surgery and outpatient care.

In the community, we deliver services that focus on people with long term conditions living well outside hospital, through our integrated locality teams working with district and community nursing teams. Community members of staff also provide care to patients in their homes and from a number of clinics, health centres and GP surgeries.

As an administrative assistant you will play a vital role in supporting the clinical secretarial team to provide outstanding service to the General Surgery department’s clinicians and patients. If you enjoy working in a fast paced environment and wish to be part of a team striving to make a difference and have the opportunity to develop your skills and you can answer “yes” to the above then we want to hear from you.

 

Main duties of the job

To provide an efficient administrative and secretarial service for the support to the department / division team in a busy environment, under direction of Medical Secretarial Manager.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE level A-C including English and Maths
  • NVQ2 in administration/data processing or equivalent level of knowledge and skills
  • Typing/text processing/data entry skills to RSA2 standard or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • ECDL or alternative recognised IT Qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of previous admin or secretarial experience in a busy environment
  • Record keeping and filing systems
  • Prioritisation of workload

  • Previous NHS administration experience
  • Use of patient record systems
