At Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital we offer outpatients, rehabilitation and intermediate services. At Uckfield Community Hospital we provide day surgery and outpatient care.

In the community, we deliver services that focus on people with long term conditions living well outside hospital, through our integrated locality teams working with district and community nursing teams. Community members of staff also provide care to patients in their homes and from a number of clinics, health centres and GP surgeries.

 

Job overview

The Pharmacy Department at ESHT has a track record of innovation especially in the areas of system working, cross sector education and training, digital systems and the development of enhanced specialist roles. Our highly experienced leadership team work closely together to provide efficient, cost effective and joined up services whilst maintaining the highest levels of patient safety.

This role will be responsible for managing the Acute Clinical Pharmacy service at the Conquest Hospital, supporting the Medical Division through policy development and identifying areas of good clinical practice and where there needs to be improvement on cost and quality in medicine use, and supporting the Departments Clinical Governance, Education & Training and Risk Management processes.

East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust lies along the beautiful South Coast of England. Our two main hospitals are based in Hastings and Eastbourne. We have two large pharmacy departments on each of the main sites, a community health-based service that includes virtual wards, and an award-winning education and training team. We have an expectation that our pharmacists spend at least 80% of their time clinically and utilise a range of support staff and technology to facilitate that. We also have several pharmacists being supported through career progression programmes including credentialing to consultant level practice.

 

Main duties of the job

1.    To actively participate in the development of Trust and Sussex wide policy to deliver medicines optimisation and ensure the safe, effective and economic use of medicines.

2.    To manage the acute Clinical Pharmacy service at Conquest Hospital (Clinical Site Lead).

3.    To provide leadership (professional and managerial) to pharmacists and clinical technicians working within the Acute team Conquest

4.    To support initiatives to improve treatment outcomes, reduce patient risk and to meet the Department’s financial obligations.

5.    To work collaboratively with the Pharmacy Education and Training leads and with the Medicines Safety Officer as required.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSC (Pharmacy) /BPharm / MPharm
  • GPhC registration examination (Vocational Masters degree in Pharmacy (4yrs) and 1 years pre-registration training and experience)
  • Current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a pharmacist
  • Diploma / MSc in Clinical Pharmacy or pharmacy practice or other equivalent post-graduate qualification
  • CPD portfolio that demonstrates an ongoing commitment to personal development
  • Enhanced management skills through formal training or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
  • Training in pharmacoeconomics / resource or change management
  • Management qualification
  • Independant prescribing qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 1 year pre-registration training and experience
  • Significant post registration experience as a hospital or specialist primary care pharmacist within a specialist field to include significant secondary care NHS experience with 2 years at Band 8a+
  • Experience in utilising information technology within the workplace including inputting, retrieving information and producing reports. Knowledge of MS excel
  • Has previous Line management experience or responsibility of staff (e.g. education and training role)
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with clinicians and a proven track record for influencing change within a directorate or ICB role
  • Previous experience in providing directorate support
  • Previous experience in mentoring and training pharmacy staff
