Job overview

We are looking for enthusiastic nurses who are interested in developing new skills in the care of children and young people with complex health needs, including epilepsy, cerebral palsy or physical disability.

We provide specialist 24/7 nursing care to children and young people from 3 years old up to 25 years in Chailey Heritage Foundation school, in the residential services and our Short Breaks Service. This role is unique and requires a nurse eager to work in partnership in a very special environment; encouraging our children and young people to express their own individual preferences and facilitate their involvement in on-site activities such as crafting, horse riding and swimming as well as on day trips and holidays.

A lack of relevant experience should not deter anyone from applying; we value enthusiasm, empathy and a willingness to learn new skills. You will be supported to become competent in catheterisation, tracheostomies and ventilation and emergency seizure management. You will gain experience of and knowledge in caring for children and young people with complex and long-term neurological conditions that will enable you to further your career though our numerous development opportunities.

The rural location means it would be helpful to have access to a car or other form of transport. There is free parking on site, including an electric car charging point.

Main duties of the job

To deliver evidence based, skilled nursing care according to the individual child or young person’s health needs, ensuring they receive nursing care promoting a valued lifestyle and independence.

To support nursing staff in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care for children & young people with complex health needs and their families, based on research and evidence of good practice.

To deliver direct personal and intimate care to children & young people.

To provide education, training and support to non-registered and registered professionals, including student nurses and medical students.

To carry out effective medication management, including stock checking, ordering, receiving medication into school and returning medication home, preparation and administration.

To develop skills and knowledge within the field of complex health needs and physical disability, ensuring the relevant clinical skills required for management of safe nursing care are maintained.

If you are ready to be part of a dedicated team who are passionate about supporting children and young people, enabling them to lead safe, happy and fulfilling lives, we would love to hear from you.
